Pemerintah Indonesia telah memutuskan untuk mengimpor 300.000 ton tambahan beras untuk mengamankan stok beras nasional. sebelumnya pemerintah Indonesia telah mengimpor beras sejumlah yang sama. Dengan demikian, Indonesia telah mengimpor beras sebanyak 600.000 ton!
Dilain sisi, Pemerintah Nasional mencanangkan 2014 sebagai tahun berswasembada beras. Lau kenapa pemerintah meninstruksikan untuk tidak mempertahankan beras lokal? Bahkan pada tataran regional, dinas pertanian daerah Jambi berniat akan menghentikan produksi beras lokal.
"The government has decided to raise rice imports by 300 thousand tons to 600 thousand tons this year, an official said. "About 300 thousand tons have been imported. There will another 300 thousand tons to be delivered in December at the latest," State Logistics Board (Bulog) President Director Sutarto Alimoeso said on Monday.
The rice would be imported from Thailand and Vietnam, he said. The decision to import another 300 thousand tons of rice was aimed at securing year-end rice stocks, he said.
To stabilize domestic rice price the government must hold at least 1.5 million tons of rice in stocks at the end of this year, he said. "Currently, our rice stocks reach 963 thousand tons."
